Pilea Peperomioides Chinese Money

Botanical Name: Pilea peperomioides

Common Name(s): Chinese Money Plant, Pancake Plant, UFO Plant

Pilea Peperomioides, commonly known as the Chinese Money Plant, is loved for its charming, round, coin-shaped leaves that grow on long, slender stems, creating a unique, sculptural appearance. This compact plant typically grows to about 12 inches in height, making it an ideal choice for desktops, shelves, or small spaces. With its easy care requirements and eye-catching form, it’s perfect for beginners and adds a playful touch to any room.

Chinese Money Plant thrives in bright, indirect light but can adapt to lower light levels. It prefers well-draining soil and should be watered when the top inch of soil feels dry. Overwatering should be avoided, as Pileas are prone to root rot. This plant does well in average indoor humidity but will benefit from occasional misting, especially in drier environments.

Air Purifying Qualities:

  • Humidity Regulation: While not as effective as some other plants, the Chinese Money Plant contributes to air moisture through transpiration, which can help slightly improve indoor humidity.
  • Oxygen Production: This plant releases oxygen, helping to freshen the air and create a cleaner indoor atmosphere.

Note: Pilea Peperomioides is considered non-toxic to pets, making it a great choice for households with cats or dogs.

Care Insights & Expert Tips

  1. Fertilize regularly: Feed your plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4 weeks during the spring and summer season.
  2. Monitor for pests: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like mealybugs and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
  3. Propagation: This plant produces small “pups” around the base. Gently separate these and replant them to grow new plants or to encourage a less crowded main plant.
  4. Rotate occasionally and prune: Rotate the plant regularly to maintain balanced growth. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to maintain a neat appearance. Prune any leggy growth to encourage a fuller shape.

FAQs

Do you have a return or replacement policy for plants?

Due to the perishable nature of plants, we do not accept returns based on personal preference. Shipping live plants back and forth can cause unnecessary stress and jeopardize the health of the plant. We encourage customers to choose carefully before placing an order. Our risk-free, 30-day customer guarantee covers cases where plants arrive damaged, dead, sick, or incorrect items were sent. We will send you a replacement plant or provide a refund.

If there’s an issue with your order, please notify us within 30 days so we can address the issue as quickly as possible. To learn more, visit 30-Day Customer Guarantee. Refunds will be processed to the card or account used for your purchase and will typically be available in your bank in 3-5 business days from the date it was issued.

If I order more than one plant, will they ship separately?

For these instances, once each item is shipped, you'll receive individual tracking information for each package, so you can easily track their progress.
