Succulent Ripple Jade

Botanical Name: Crassula perfoliata var. falcata
Common Name(s): Ripple Jade, Propeller Plant, Jade Ripple

The Succulent Ripple 'Jade'  is a striking and unusual succulent native to South Africa, known for its distinctive, wing-like, rippled foliage that resembles a jade-colored propeller or butterfly wings. This plant stands out due to its unique, fan-shaped leaves that are arranged in opposing pairs, giving it a visually dynamic and sculptural appearance. The leaves are a vibrant jade green, and they have smooth, fleshy surfaces with wavy edges, which give the plant its “rippled” look. When stressed by bright light or drought, the plant may develop reddish or bronze tints along the edges, enhancing its overall beauty.

This is a relatively slow-growing succulent that forms a compact rosette-like shape. It can grow up to 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) in height and about 12 inches (30 cm) in width, making it suitable for small to medium-sized containers. It’s ideal for adding structure to succulent gardens, hanging baskets, or as part of a mixed arrangement on a sunny windowsill or tabletop. In late winter or early spring, it may produce small, star-shaped, white or pale pink flowers that appear in dense clusters at the tips of the stems. While the flowers are relatively small, they add a delicate touch to the plant when it blooms.

The Ripple Jade is easy to care for and highly drought-tolerant, making it a perfect choice for succulent enthusiasts or anyone looking for a low-maintenance plant. Like most succulents, it prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight. Ideally, place the plant near a window with plenty of bright, filtered light. Direct afternoon sun should be avoided, as this can scorch the plant’s tender leaves, but a few hours of morning sun is typically beneficial for encouraging healthy growth and vibrant color.

This succulent thrives in well-draining, sandy soil and is best grown in containers with drainage holes to ensure excess water can escape. The Ripple Jade has relatively low water requirements, and it's best to let the soil dry out completely between waterings.

This succulent prefers temperatures between 60–80°F (16–27°C) and can tolerate brief periods of higher temperatures. However, it should be protected from frost, as it is not frost-tolerant and can suffer damage when exposed to cold temperatures. The plant does well in typical indoor temperatures and can thrive in dry indoor conditions. If you live in a humid environment, be mindful of airflow around the plant to prevent fungal issues.

Note: This plant is non-toxic to pets, making it a safe choice for households with cats and dogs.
