The Croton Mammy is a compact and colorful variety of the Codiaeum variegatum species, renowned for its bold, multi-colored foliage. Native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, Crotons are admired for their vibrant, variegated leaves that can display a mix of red, yellow, orange, green, and even purple tones. The 'Mammy' variety is particularly prized for its small, bushy growth habit and its intense, contrasting colors that make it an excellent statement plant for interior spaces.
This Croton grows to a height of about 1–2 feet indoors and has a bushy, compact form. The leaves are narrow and elongated, with striking combinations of yellow, orange, red, and green. The intense coloration is particularly vivid when the plant receives ample sunlight. Like other Crotons, the 'Mammy' variety thrives in bright, direct light, which encourages the plant to maintain its vibrant hues. It can tolerate some indirect light, but in lower light conditions, the colors may become less intense.
This plant prefers a well-draining potting mix and should be watered regularly when the top inch of soil feels dry. However, be careful not to overwater as Crotons are susceptible to root rot, especially in poorly-drained soil.
